First Launch of Chromagika Girl

A new day dawns after the early access release of クロマギカガール - Chromagika Girl (v0.7.1), a game about a young girl who one day becomes a magical girl and is roped into saving planet Earth from an army of alien space invaders. Sounds like a typical plot you find in a lot of magical girl genres but hold up, the game story, lore, and game play is much more deeper than what's to be expected. Unfortunately all of this will have to be delayed as we are unable to make the dateline with a full game release and I sincerely apologize for this setback.

So as you know this game is a submission to the Magical Girl Game Jam 3 held between  14 February to 14 March (ended yesterday as of this post) and currently the game has been submitted as an unfinished early access game of version 0.7.1 with only one playable level (the tutorial level). First of all I would like to deeply apologize to everyone for the unexpected lack of content. The team members and the implementation of game code/engine went really well, but rather what caused the setback was the choice of mechanics, game loop, concept, and story idea that were unexpectedly over scoped for a 1 month project when I first conceived the project.  During the jam period and as the only coder in the team, I was coding up a bunch of stuff from the ground up such as the WebGL optimized Bullet Hell toolkit, a side scroller arcade level editor, arcade enemy AI toolkit, and a skill tree and skill modifiable weapons system. Each one of the toolkits/systems took about a week to develop (excluding UI artwork on my part) and several delays were caused by a sort of feature creep and many mechanics iterations/adjustments. However in light of aiming to make it a fully fleshed out game with solid game mechanics and story, this is a sacrifice and responsibility I'm willing to make as I submitted the game with a lack of content.

One thing I can guarantee for the full game is that all the assets are accounted for and the game foundations are solid enough to make this a good game on full release. In other words, what we are left with is pure level and story development from this point forward so please do expect a ton of new and exciting content coming your way when you follow the game development. For the game mechanics, there will be lots of minor tweaks, QoL changes, and game play balancing involved as this project continues to be developed.

Before I end,  I truly must say that I'm really proud of all my talented team members and their deep commitments to the project. Although we have been allowed a month on creating assets for the game,  their dedication and excellent quality of work at fulfilling all art assets and music assets during the jam period is on par with professional indie game development teams. Hence, my one other reason for continuing the development of the game and making it a goal to have the full game out.

Lastly please do support and encourage my wonderful team members in anyway you can, by following them on social media, requesting a commission, or simply checking out the contents they make by trying out the links below:

P.S. As for when it will be completed? Well, to not make the same mistake of underestimating dev time, I’m going to make an overestimated and safe bet that the game will be completed between 2 - 4 weeks. Thank you for your patience!
